Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Before August polls, leaders affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition made hilarious and uncalled-for remarks against President-elect William Ruto.<\/p>\n

He was under attack over his presidential bid, hustler’s manifesto and his ‘strained’ relationship with outgoing president, Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/p>\n

Some leaders made ‘ugly’ remarks with some vowing that Ruto will never be president.<\/p>\n

On September 2, 2020, Jubilee party\u2019s vice chairperson David Murathe said it was impossible for Ruto to participate and win a presidential race in which he lacks the baton.<\/p>\n

\u201cMambo bado, hii ni kionjo tu. You wait, atajua hajui (It is still too early, you\u2019ve only witnessed a test-run. We\u2019ll prove to him that he\u2019s not as smart as he thinks),\u201d Murathe said during an interview at a local Tv station.<\/p>\n

On January 8, Environment CS Keriako Tobiko said Ruto was not fit to lead the country as president and referred to him as a clerk.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stand by what I said. Ruto is a mere clerk for the President just like we are cabinet secretaries. The only difference between him and us is that he has no respect for the President,\u201d Tobiko said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stand by my position, and the sentiments expressed during the Maa declaration recently that Ruto is not fit to be President and if he becomes President, he will mortgage this country.\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli claimed that all those living next to Ruto in Sugoi should cut down trees because Ruto will hang himself after the August polls results are released.<\/p>\n

\u201cWakate miti Sugoi, huyu mtoto atajinyonga,\u201d he said in Mombasa during the Universal Health Coverage<\/p>\n

Atwoli believed Ruto could not become president following the prophecy he made in 2014.<\/p>\n

On May 14, former Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege said that being a go-getter, Ruto is impatient and this, she said, will likely come to haunt him in future.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a chance to grow and take over the next government but he was impatient. The DP needs time to mature. He is excited and surrounded by young people who are pushing him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

On July 26, former Jubilee Party secretary general Raphel Tuju hinted at leaving the country if Ruto won the presidential elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think someone like DCI boss George Kinoti and Raphael Tuju will seek to relocate to another country. Kinoti will be forced into exile,\u201d he said on Weru TV.<\/p>\n

On August 5, Interior CS Fred Matiang\u2019i told off Ruto over rigging claims.<\/p>\n

\u201cI agree with his excellency that Kenya has a shortage of fools and I think that applies more to some of those petty claims he makes than anything else,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has abused me for so long, but next week on Tuesday (August 9) we will see who will win the election. We will show them how to govern this country\u201d<\/p>\n

On August 6, Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga said he had received enough insults from Ruto, but the polls would determine the strongest candidate.<\/p>\n
