Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Dynamic Kenya Police midfielder Willis Okeyo is set to return to the squad to face Wazalendo on Saturday in the Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League match at the City Park Stadium, coach Patrick Mugambi has confirmed.<\/p>\n

‘Awilo’ returns following a fourth professional stint in Germany where he played for VfB Stuttgart.<\/p>\n

The experienced midfielder has been a key cog in Mugambi’s side and is still regarded as the finest midfielder of the decade because of his relentless energy, ball-winning abilities, strong positional awareness and game-reading attributes.<\/p>\n

“We are happy to welcome Okeyo back and his importance to the team is never in question,” Mugambi said.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old, who doubles up as Spartans coach, is in the sunset of his career and remains Kenya’s most capped player.<\/p>\n

“Even though he’s been around for almost two weeks, he should be in contention to play because his presence motivates the whole team,” said Mugambi.<\/p>\n

Police will, however, miss the services of maestro Edmond Makona. Mugambi revealed the midfield anchor is out for at least two months after suffering a groin injury.<\/p>\n

“Makona’s unavailability is a major blow to the team but we must find solutions,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Gold Cup Club champions returned to training on Monday. They walloped Wazalendo 3-0 in the first leg but Mugambi is worried about the threat posed by the South B-based side, who have blown hot and cold this season.<\/p>\n

“It’s never easy to beat a team twice but I hope the players will rise to the occasion. The team that will utilise their chances will carry the day,” opined Mugambi.<\/p>\n

“They are youthful and their pace will definitely trouble our back line. However, we are banking on experience and resilience to register back-to-back wins against them.”<\/p>\n

The Sutcliffe Usagi-captained Wazalendo could face a baptism of fire with the leaky defense exposing their weaknesses.<\/p>\n

Despite sitting third with 14 points from nine matches, Wazalendo have conceded 16 goals \u2014 the third highest in the division as Mombasa Sports club has shipped in 25 and Park Road Badgers 19. Butali are top of the table with 23 points while former champions Police are second with 22.<\/p>\n
