Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Elgeyo Marakwet Senator-elect Kipchumba Murkomen has said they will serve justice for Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials who were tortured.<\/p>\n

Murkomen said the officials were just doing the responsibilities endowed to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe celebrate staff led by CEO Marjan Hussein for doing what\u2019s right to defend and protect our democracy,\u201d he said in a tweet.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are our nation\u2019s pride. Sadly some were tortured by state agents, others were shot and some like Daniel Musyoka paid the ultimate price. We will serve you justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musyoka went missing on August 11 at 9.45 am while at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre.<\/p>\n

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said before the declaration of presidential results, the officer stepped out to answer a call never to return.<\/p>\n

His body was found in a thicket in Mariko near Amboseli National Park.<\/p>\n

Mohamed Kanyare who was a presiding officer at the Towheed polling centre in Elnur Tula Tula ward, Eldas constituency was shot by unknown persons on election day and had his leg amputated.<\/p>\n

The elections were stopped on August 9 after chaos erupted following a dispute on how IEBC had hired presiding officers and their deputies.<\/p>\n

The situation prompted IEBC commissioner Abdi Gulie to fly to Eldas and resolve the standoff.<\/p>\n
