Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nyandarua Senator John Methu has said he voted for the former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi as the Senate speaker because he paid his school fees.<\/p>\n

He said that it was his payback for the help he got.<\/p>\n

Methu said Kingi helped him campaign for a seat at the Pwani University Council when he was a governor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI joined Pwani University in 2013 and then you were the Kilifi governor. I was vying for a seat at the university council and I come from a very humble background,\u201d Methu said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not have anything to push me there. I came to your office and asked you to help me and you did that. I asked for posters and you gave more than posters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Methu is among the youngest persons elected to the Senate.<\/p>\n

Kingi was elected on Thursday after he garnered 46 out of the 67 votes, having an absolute majority.<\/p>\n

He will replace Kenneth Lusaka who was elected Governor of Bungoma County.<\/p>\n

He was sworn in shortly after he was elected.<\/p>\n

Kingi becomes the third Senate speaker after Ekwe Ethuro and Kenneth Lusaka.<\/p>\n

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka withdrew from the race.<\/p>\n
