Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi wants President-elect William Ruto to end graft by state and county officials.<\/p>\n

Taking to his Twitter handle on Saturday, Ahmednasir said Ruto should start by having every national and county employee declare their wealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident William Ruto must end theft of public money by the national government employees and those of the 47 counties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can he do this? Start with the 4 CS dollar Billionaires and ask every employee to explain his source of wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n

He expressed confidence that the method will see Ruto recover Sh2.4 billion ($20 billion) in two years.<\/p>\n

His remarks come after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission asked all leaders; newly elected, nominated, appointed and exiting to declare their wealth.<\/p>\n

A statement released on Thursday, gave the leaders 30 days to declare their wealth, adding that it will provide crucial information to law enforcement bodies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe require each newly elected, nominated or appointed state officer, or any officer exiting government following the August election to declare their wealth, that of their spouses and children under 18 years,\u201d EACC said.<\/p>\n

In his manifesto, Ruto committed to fighting corruption, saying it would start with depoliticising and freeing the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n

He said he will make sure that the EACC and the NPS are financially independent to carry out their Constitutional mandate objectively.<\/p>\n

Ruto’s plan was however criticised by Raila Odinga’s team for “lacking” a defined plan.<\/p>\n

Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua said Ruto was avoiding the subject.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is no wonder that Ruto and Kenya Kwanza have no agenda or plan to address corruption, the number one impediment to the development of our country. Nothing will ever go forward in this country without slaying the dragon of corruption,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
