Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The peace and unity enjoyed before, during and after elections is a great sign of maturity and tremendous growth of Kenyan democracy, the Gema Cultural association has said.<\/p>\n

Gema, which comprises of Gikuyu, Embu and Meru communities called on communities to unite and support the new leadership to move Kenya forward.<\/p>\n

Led by Bishop Lawi Imathiu, Gema chairman, Bishop Peter Njenga, his co-chair, secretary Arthur Namu and treasurer Peter Munga congratulated President-elect William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe promise to support his government and pray that God will help him fulfil the vision of our great nation. We thank God that the country is cohesive and peaceful. We again thank the people of Kenya for remaining peaceful and united.<\/p>\n

“Whoever marries the mother automatically becomes our father. Ruto was overwhelmingly voted for, he becomes our father,\u201d Imathiu said.<\/p>\n

He added that the Gema Cultural Association thanks President Uhuru Kenyatta for his stewardship, acknowledging that the handshakes of 2012 and 2018 are the foundations of the peace that we enjoy today.<\/p>\n

The elders said Uhuru will remain a beacon of peace and unity in the country and Africa as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate that during his tenure Kenya has made tremendous development across all and successfully transitioned the country into devolution.\u201d<\/p>\n

The association also commended former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and former Justice Minister Martha Karua for contesting the presidential election and graciously accepting the outcome.<\/p>\n

We appreciate their immense contribution to the democratisation process of this country.<\/p>\n

“We accept the positive role played by our independent institutions during the elections. We particularly thank the Supreme Court led by chief justice Martha Koome,\u201d Imathiu said.<\/p>\n
