Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has termed leaders moving to President-elect William Ruto’s camp as cheap.<\/p>\n

In a video seen by the Star, Oparanya said it is unfortunate that several Azimio members are going to Kenya Kwanza.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s unfortunate and if they are being enticed, that is an election fraud, because you cannot be talking about Azimio just a week ago and days after you move to Kenya Kwanza because you want favours, those are the leaders I would say are cheap,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Oparanya said if leaders continue defecting, Kenya might return to the Kanu days of only just one political party.<\/p>\n

\u201cKenya is a multi-party and we should respect that and we don’t want to return to Kanu days where we used to have one party, dominating the political scene of the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must have a strong opposition that will oversight the ruling party and their promises that were made during the campaign, through their manifesto.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oparanya said he will be sticking to the opposition side and they will be having discussions if the office of the opposition should be recognised and funded by the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is what we had proposed in the BBI, that the nature of opposition must be recognised and that office must be funded by the government so that there are proper checks and balances within the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
