Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Shujaa coach Damian McGrath believes there are positives to take home from the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

Kenya finished 12th overall, a marginal improvement from the 16th place they occupied five years ago in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

The Englishman believes Shujaa have made improvement in the last three months since he took over reigns as a coach in May.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe we have made progress and the team is in a better state than I found it. There is no doubt we are headed in the right direction,” he added<\/p>\n

The Englishman expressed optimism that with the new season starting in November with the Hong Kong Sevens, the team will be sharper and more competitive for the start of the season.<\/p>\n

“I am confident with the marginal improvements we are seeing. We are looking at blending some of the players from the Sevens circuit to join us as we seek to make the environment competitive,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Shujaa began the tournament with a 19-0 win over Tonga before being knocked out by Argentina 22-7 in the round of 16 to drop to the Challenge Trophy quarterfinal match, where they beat Scotland 24-5.<\/p>\n

The team then lost 36-0 to England in the semifinals and lost to USA 26-19 in the 11\/12 place semifinal. Kenya’s try scorers were Vincent Onyala, Nelson Oyoo and Jeff Oluoch. Samuel Oliech kicked over two conversions.<\/p>\n

The two teams were tied at 7-7 at the interval. Fiji clinched the title by beating New Zealand 29-12 to add the World title to their Olympic crown.<\/p>\n

Ireland crowned the podium positions by beating Australia 19-14 for the bronze. Australia bagged the women’s crown by beating New Zealand 240-22 in the final.]<\/p>\n
