Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko has put all the ghost workers in the county on notice, saying he is about to unmask them.<\/p>\n

The first-time ODM governor fired the warning shot during the ongoing meeting of county chiefs at the Pride Inn Paradise Hotel in Mombasa on Friday.<\/p>\n

Ayacko said he was shocked to find several names of non-employees on the county’s payroll system.<\/p>\n

He asked individuals who have been earning county money without working to seek redemption because their days are numbered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m not going to allow ghosts to work because ghosts do not work. We are not going to allow ghosts to use or benefit from the limited resources meant to benefit the people of Migori,\u201d Ayacko said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf those ghosts are hearing me, it is the time to repent and go back to the Lord,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Ayacko now joins the ballooning list of county chiefs who have vowed to protect public funds from a non-existent workforce.<\/p>\n

Others who have undertaken to purge their governments of the vice include Simba Arati (Kisii) and Kawira Mwangaza (Meru).<\/p>\n

The three are among 47 county chiefs, their deputies and top national government officials currently in Mombasa for a three-day workshop that kicked off on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The workshop will see the governors taken through the Constitutional and legal framework anchoring devolution, county structures and processes, and public participation.<\/p>\n

The governors are also expected to elect new leadership for a five-year term.<\/p>\n

The slots up for grabs include the chairperson and deputy chairperson positions, Council of Governors Whip seat, and 18 chairpersons of 18 various committees.<\/p>\n

Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Azimio la Umoja Coalition party will be battling to control the Council of Governors.<\/p>\n

Azimio Coalition is said to be fronting Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi whereas the Kenya Kwanza team is fronting Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.<\/p>\n

The new governors will undergo induction during a meeting that will culminate in county bosses electing the CoG leadership.<\/p>\n

President William Ruto is expected to close the meeting on Saturday after intense orientation of the governors.<\/p>\n
