Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Equity Bank Hawks thrashed Jono Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 85-23 in a women’s national league match at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The bankers rolled away easily after Anne Nyagaki opened the scoring from a rebound off a baseline attempt from AnneRose Mandela.<\/p>\n

Speedy Melissa Otieno knocked down three three-pointers and wound up with points in the first quarter as they took a 24-0 cushion.<\/p>\n

The only thing that changed in the second stanza was that the students bagged their first points from Gifty Onkui as they trailed 44-3 at halftime.<\/p>\n

After intermission, Mandela made two baskets and Betty Kananu added 11, including two straight treys for a 69-13 lead as the third quarter ended.<\/p>\n

It was Jkuat\u2019s best display as they managed to post 20 points during this period. Equity were up 16-10 in the last quarter.<\/p>\n

Leading the former championships scoring chart was Kananu, who grabbed 15 points, Otieno 13 and Mandela 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were trying new systems in both offence and defence. While our defence wasn\u2019t convincing, the offence was good,\u201d said Equity coach Sylvia Kamau.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue working on our defence in the coming days as we prepare for the regional tournament in Dar es Salaam. We gave our opponents much room and it\u2019s only that they weren\u2019t converting their chances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kamau said they will continue to fine-tune the side ahead of the Zone Five Club show that starts in the Tanzanian port city next Monday.<\/p>\n

In the lower Division matches at the same venue, veteran Mike Lipokoiyit\u2019s Absa fell 62-59 to Jkuat Stray Cats.<\/p>\n
