Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Police Service has refuted claims that seven bodies that are pending identification and collection at the Yala sub-county hospital were all retrieved from River Yala.<\/p>\n

In a statement, NPS spokesperson Bruno Shioso said the reports were misleading adding that they have contrary information about how the bodies found their way to the mortuary.<\/p>\n

“Attention of the NPS is drawn from a recent media reporting by a section of media on alleged ‘retrieval’ of seven bodies from river Yala, with the bodies lying at the Yala sub-county hospital mortuary. This reporting is inaccurate and grossly misleading to the public,” read part of the statement.<\/p>\n

NPS however said it is true the bodies are there, but not all were retrieved from the river.<\/p>\n

“Whereas it’s true that seven dead bodies are at the local Yala sub-county mortuary, not all are associated with a retrieval from the Yala river as alleged,” he said.<\/p>\n

Each body has a specific and different history and circumstances from the other as follows:<\/p>\n

One case is of a sudden death of an unknown person who collapsed and died at Wagai market and he remains unidentified.<\/p>\n

Another case is of a mob injustice incident in the Malanga area.<\/p>\n

Another case of suspected drowning was brought to the morgue by the neighbouring Khwisero police station.<\/p>\n

A hit-and-run road traffic accident victim was also taken to the morgue<\/p>\n

One case was of a suspected suicide by drowning which was witnessed by the public and a suicide note left behind also saw the body taken to the morgue.<\/p>\n

Only two of the seven bodies were retrieved from River Yala.<\/p>\n

“In all these cases, locals and neighbouring police and full seized, coordination and investigating with a view of establishing the identity of deceased persons including probable causes of their respective deaths,” read the statement.<\/p>\n

“Inquest files have been opened as per the law.”<\/p>\n
