Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has assured China that its interaction with Kenya will remain intact.<\/p>\n

He said President William Ruto has no intention whatsoever to cut down tiers with China.<\/p>\n

“Assured the Ambassador that the new administration of President Ruto has no plans whatsoever to scale down our collaboration with the People\u2019s Republic of China,” Wetangula said.<\/p>\n

He was speaking on Friday when he met China’s Ambassador Zhou Pingjian.<\/p>\n

China is Kenya’s second-largest creditor after the World Bank and has financed infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n

Wetangula noted that China was one of the most important national development partners for Kenya, and has in the last decade extended considerable support to our infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

The Speaker further expressed that he was delighted that China was also seeking to further enhance our strategic economic partnership and people-people relations.<\/p>\n

“At the National Assembly we will pursue robust engagements and exchange of high-level visits to enhance our relations,” Wetangula added.<\/p>\n

During the campaign period, Ruto said he will deport Chinese nationals from jobs that could be done by Kenyans if he is elected to office.<\/p>\n

However, after being elected as Kenya’s fifth presdient, Ruto has signalled that Kenya will still look to China to finance and develop its infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He said Kenya and China would \u201cexpand these relations on infrastructure, agriculture, education \u2013 among other broad arrays of issues \u2013 for the mutual benefit of our countries\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cherish the robust friendship that Kenya enjoys with China,\u201d Ruto said last week.<\/p>\n
