Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Karan Patel, navigated by Tauseef Khan, stormed to his third FIA African Rally Championship victory of the season with a hard-fought win over Zambia\u2019s Leroy Gomes at Rwanda\u2019s Mountain Gorilla Rally.<\/p>\n

Following Saturday\u2019s engine misfires, the Kenyan series leader took control of the penultimate round on the closing day with a total of seven fastest times in his Ford Fiesta Rally2 to secure victory by a 13.21 seconds margin.<\/p>\n

Karan went to bed on Saturday with a 13 seconds deficit behind Gomes.<\/p>\n

However, the second place for Gomes in a Ford Fiesta Rally2 means the fight for the ARC drivers\u2019 title goes to the wire next month in Zambia during the final round. Gomes was hoping to seal the coveted title in Rwanda but following Karan\u2019s spirited fightback, the title will now be decided on his home soil in the season-closing Zambia International Rally.<\/p>\n

Sealing the podium dash in the Ford Fiesta Rally3 drive was Kenya\u2019s youngster Hamza Anwar clocked 1:21:21.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite a great feeling today in the Fiesta. We maintained a steady pace behind the Rally2s of Karan and Gomes. Posting four second fastest times and a couple of third fastest times is a clear indication that we have now come to grips with the car,\u201d said Hamza after his podium finish.<\/p>\n

Following a dry and dusty morning loop, crews had to contend with a wet second loop occasioned by a heavy afternoon downpour.<\/p>\n

Ugandan Jas Mangat settled for fourth place incidentally with three fastest times on CS1, CS3 and CS10. After five rounds of brilliant displays, Gomes still leads the ARC Championship with 126 points against Karan\u2019s 105.<\/p>\n

All the five Kenyan drivers enlisted for the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC)-organized round 5 survived the demanding conditions.<\/p>\n

Jeremiah Wahome wrapped up his Rwanda debut in a credible fifth position clocking 1:22:30.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have had no issues. It has been straightforward. We were much closer to the guys ahead today. I don\u2019t know if we are pushing more or less but we have enjoyed our debut in Rwanda,\u201d Jeremiah said.<\/p>\n
