Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya will host both the ITTF Africa Continental Cup and Africa Congress in June next year, according to Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) president Andrew Mudibo.<\/p>\n

“Right now, our focus is on hosting next year’s Africa Continental Cup and the African Congress in June,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said they have a busy schedule with KTTA elections scheduled for November. He, however, said the exact dates are yet to be set.<\/p>\n

Mudibo said they have big plans for the sport and he is hoping his players will evolve faster and qualify for major championships like the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

He particularly singled out Brian Mutua as a prospect for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.<\/p>\n

“In the next three years, I foresee a lot of development in the sport. I want to see all of our players making big moves both locally and internationally. For the Olympics, all of us have set our eyes there. I hope our star, Mutua and many others will be able to get a chance to compete,” Mudibo said.<\/p>\n

He added: “With enough support from the government, all these things are possible.”<\/p>\n

He said he strongly believes the sport is well marketed in the country and the only challenge is funding.<\/p>\n

“I confidently believe the sport is well known countrywide and we are doing well. However, we have a few financial challenges, which I believe will be sorted with time,” he said.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the sport’s way forward, Mudibo said he wants all the counties to embrace table tennis. He said they have been doing school tours to identify talent with a view to nurture it.<\/p>\n

“Table Tennis is an individual sport and you can only do well if you develop the interest. We have been doing school tours with a view to growing talent,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
