Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Swearing in of the 124 MCAs of the third County Assembly of Nairobi is ongoing at City Hall.<\/p>\n

As highlighted in the Nairobi County Assembly Standing orders, on the first sitting of a new County Assembly after a general election, the Clerk shall read the notification of the convening of the County Assembly as published in the Gazette and the County Gazette.<\/p>\n

Clerk Edward Gichana on Thursday lay a list of the names of the persons elected as Members on the Table of the County Assembly.<\/p>\n

He also administered the oath or affirmation of office to MCAs in alphabetical order using the following order of precedence.<\/p>\n

Longest serving MCAs in the County will be given first priority.<\/p>\n

Mihang\u2019o MCA Paul Kados and Kariobangi South Robert Mbatia were the first ones to take the oath.<\/p>\n

Pursuant to Article 74 of the Constitution, no person shall assume or perform any functions of the office of a member before taking and subscribing to the Oath.<\/p>\n

While taking the oath, MCAs were allowed to use both Kiswahili and English.<\/p>\n

Those who are Christians will take the oath while holding the Bible while for Muslims, the Quaran was provided.<\/p>\n

After taking their oath, the MCAs will proceed to elect the speaker of the county assembly.<\/p>\n
