Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nairobi MCAs are heading to the second round of voting after the two candidates failed to attain the threshold to win the speaker\u2019s seat in round one.<\/p>\n

As announced by Clerk Edward Gichana, Kennedy Ng\u2019ondi attained 71 votes while Hassan Robow got 52.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose two candidates will proceed for a second round since none of them attained the threshold of 82 votes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The voting exercise began immediately after the MCAs took an oath of office.<\/p>\n

There was a slight disruption at the Nairobi County Assembly as the election of the Speaker began.<\/p>\n

The disruption was a result of a confrontation between Members of the County Assembly allied to Kenya Kwanza and those of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.<\/p>\n

Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura said the ballot boxes were placed in a manner that would allow the legislators to see how the voting process will be done.<\/p>\n

Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi noted that the placement of the boxes breeches secrecy.<\/p>\n

From the Azimio coalition, Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok bashed his counterparts arguing that the ballot boxes had been placed where they were in the past elections.<\/p>\n

Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto said the issues raised by their counterparts are not legislative and are not anchored in the standing orders.<\/p>\n

Clerk Gichana directed the sergeants at arms to place the ballot boxes in the right position.<\/p>\n

The sergeants confirmed the ballot boxes were empty before the voting started.<\/p>\n

The ballot boxes are placed on the right and left sides of the floor of the house.<\/p>\n

MCAs who are physically challenged were given first priority.<\/p>\n
