Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Moi Airbase emerged overall champions of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Taekwondo Challenge Cup held at the Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The annual competition was staged to select players who will hold down the fort for the forces on both the national and international stages.<\/p>\n

Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe and Isiolo wrapped up in second and third places respectively behind MAB.<\/p>\n

MAB men’s team finished first ahead of Nairobi Region and KN Base Mtongwe respectively.<\/p>\n

MAB also bagged the women’s trophy after topping the standings to edge out Isiolo and Kahawa Garrison in that order.<\/p>\n

The Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces General (Dr) Robert Kariuki Kibochi commended the organizers and participants for making the event a success.<\/p>\n

In a speech read on his behalf by the deputy commander of the Moi Air Base, Herbert Wafula, Kibochi said the competition had lived up to its spirit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m excited to join you for this tournament. The competition has brought together all the Kenya Defense Forces formations. This is a remarkable development in the forces,\u201d Kibicho said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour presence here today is a clear manifestation of significant achievements in the sporting arena and great milestone towards building the spirit of togetherness in the taekwondo sport,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea is to enable our athletes to feature in international championships.”<\/p>\n

He asked the coaches and the teams to prepare adequately for the tasks ahead so as to make the country proud.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thank all the competitors for putting up a brilliant performance and exhibiting a good spirit throughout the competition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kibochi extolled the organisers for laying the ground for a successful event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sincerely thank the organizing committee for working tirelessly and dedicating your time to make this event a success.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to thank the service commanders for their timely provision of personnel and support towards the success of this event.<\/p>\n

On his part, Wafula said he was generally impressed with the level of performance exhibited by the participants.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m not particularly familiar with the rules of the game but the passion and the zeal some participants displayed kept me entertained throughout,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all winners regardless of the results. So I hope that you will all leave this championship proud even if you didn’t win a single medal.\u201d<\/p>\n
