Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leadership has accused President William Ruto of failing to address pertinent issues affecting the country in his inaugural address.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media on Friday, Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka said that Ruto had failed to keep his campaign promises, including reducing the cost of living.<\/p>\n

The Wiper party leader accused Ruto of using the sorry state of the economy to assure Kenyans paradise, but none of that has been reflected.<\/p>\n

“The first campaign promise was to the lowering of the cost of living. From Day I, all costs associated with basic living have gone up. The price of unga and the cost of electricity are beyond the ordinary wananchi’s reach. These ore matters we feel should take pre-eminence in these early days,” Kalonzo said.<\/p>\n

“Just like there was the rush to subsidize fertilizer on 19th September 2022, the same urgency should have first and foremost been applied to the rapidly rising cost of living.”<\/p>\n

Azimio said it had directed allied legislators to open an inquiry into how the government procured the subsidised fertiliser.<\/p>\n

Kalonzo noted that some of the people Ruto picked as Cabinet Secretary nominees have criminal cases and they will ask their MPs not to approve them.<\/p>\n

“This was not procedurally done, on the basis of competencies and personal integrity and we shall direct our MPs to withhold approval of those who do not meet the Chapter Six threshold of our Constitution.”<\/p>\n

The former vice president who was flanked by a host of MPs said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission must be reformed to guarantee free, fair and credible elections in the future.<\/p>\n

Kalonzo added that Azimio la Umoja -OKA’s transformative agenda continues to exist, despite them losing the election.<\/p>\n

“We are re-energized, revitalized and rejuvenated to ensure that the hopes and aspirations of the Kenyan people will be at the top of our agenda,” he said.<\/p>\n
