Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Ten-time Kenya Cup champions Impala will start life in the KRU Championship with a tie against Zetech University on November 26.<\/p>\n

The Ngong Road giants, who were relegated alongside Nondies will then face varsity sides Daystar University and United States International University.<\/p>\n

The Red shirts then have a date with former Kenya Cup outfit Kisumu RFC on December 17.<\/p>\n

The League will then take a Christmas and New Year break before resuming on January 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

Nondies, who have won a record Kenya Cup titles at 17, will start their Championship season against Daystar then face USIU before concluding the year with matches against Kisumu and the University of Eldoret.<\/p>\n

The top two teams in the championship get promoted to the Kenya Cup while the bottom two in the top tier drop to the championship.<\/p>\n

Impala RFC chairman Charles Ngovi was optimistic that his charges will be ready for the start of the season.<\/p>\n

“We are already into our second month of the pre-season with a good blend of young and experienced players. We will be going for nothing short of promotion,\u201d said Ngovi.<\/p>\n

“To that effect, Impala will be playing at the next month’s Floodlit tournament to prepare them themselves adequately.”<\/p>\n

“One of the challenges we had last season was lack of a proper pre-season and it affected us. If you saw the matches we lost, it came down to not having a rigorous pre-season. We have learnt our lessons and I am confident that the team will bounce back,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Top Kenya Cup and Championship sides are busy preparing for the start of the season and have lined up build-up matches before the season opener in late November.<\/p>\n
