Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla has moved to distance the club from freemasonry after chairman Ambrose Rachier confessed to being a member of the secret organisation.<\/p>\n

Ocholla said in a statement that Rachier’s relationship with the freemason organisation is entirely a personal decision and does not necessarily reflect the official position of the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the Secretary General of Gor Mahia FC and on behalf of the Executive Committee, I watched with interest our chairman’s interview about Freemasons,\u201d Ocholla said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe EC members, players, employees and the mighty Gor Mahia want to assure our fans that we are not part of the Freemasons society and that our chairman’s affiliation to the society is a personal journey as attested in the media.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe EC kindly requests all fans of the club to stay calm as we mitigate the way forward.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NTV reporter Duncan Khaemba, Rachier stirred up a hornets’ nest by confessing he was indeed a Freemason.<\/p>\n

The Nairobi-based lawyer also dismissed claims that freemason is a satanic enterprise.<\/p>\n

Rachier sought to deconstruct the mystery clouding the activities of the ‘secret’ organisation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think most are talking from a point of view of Christianity, yet masonry is not based on any particular religion,\u201d Rachier said.<\/p>\n

While confessing he was a member, Rachier was emphatic that freemasons don’t subscribe to any particular religious faith.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have Muslims in freemasonry, Christians, Buddhists and a few atheists, so there is no reference whatsoever to issues of devil worship, whoever the devil is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rachier said the negative attitudes about freemason were being peddled by people who have no idea what the organisation is all about.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is all about ignorance. If you get to the masonic hall, the first thing you get is a citation of King Solomon to God saying: \u201cI shall build you a house and you shall establish your throne forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said anybody who has interacted with freemason wouldn’t hesitate to invite a friend or family member to be part of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been there since 1994 and I would find it is something good, something that I would want to invite a friend. It is a member\u2019s organisation in which someone who knows you very well invites you to join. Our main objective is to engage in charity to help humanity,\u201d Rachier said.<\/p>\n

Rachier admitted that the organisation boasts a roster of powerful members, among them members of the judiciary.<\/p>\n

For years, the local clergy has viewed freemasonry with a lot of suspicions, claiming it borders on devil worship.<\/p>\n

The Church instigated the formation of the Devil Worship Commission in 1994 to investigate its activities.<\/p>\n
