Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza administration is ready to be criticised and oversighted by the Opposition.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Nyeri on Tuesday, Ruto encouraged the opposition to play its oversight role as stipulated in law.<\/p>\n

“Sasa mashindano imeisha, wale wameachwa kwa upinzani wataendelea kutukosoa na sisi hatuna shida (Elections are now over, those who have been left in the opposition should continue to oversight the government and we have no problem with it),” he said.<\/p>\n

The President reaffirmed that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga deserve respect for their service to the country<\/p>\n

He said they will be treated rightfully and respectfully by the Kenya Kwanza administration going forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cTulishindana na rais Kenyatta na Raila Odinga na tunawapa heshima ambayo inawatosha kama viongozi ambao wametutangulia. (We ran against President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga and we accord them the respect they deserve),\u201d Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The head of state was speaking in Nyeri county during the burial service of Jackson Reriani Gachagua, the elder brother of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.<\/p>\n

The opposition coalition started showing its might last week after Ruto unveiled his nominees to the Cabinet.<\/p>\n

Azimio affiliate MPs vowed to be thorough in the vetting exercise of the nominees.<\/p>\n

The MPs criticised some of the nominees and raised questions about their eligibility to hold ministerial positions.<\/p>\n

The opposition criticised Ruto’s speech during his national address during the opening of the 13th Parliament last Thursday.<\/p>\n

Led by Wiper Party leader and Azimio principal Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila Odinga allies faulted President Ruto saying he failed to address pertinent issues affecting the country during his inaugural speech in the House.<\/p>\n

The leaders also called on the government to honour campaign promises and lower the cost of living and ensure women take up half of Cabinet as pledged.<\/p>\n

The opposition also reiterated their earlier stance that the electoral agency IEBC should be reformed from office.<\/p>\n
