Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua has said it is absurd that Uganda President Yoweri Museveni promoted his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba after his threats to invade Kenya.<\/p>\n

He said it was no surprise that Muhoozi acted with no regard to the rule of law seemingly because he knew he would be rewarded.<\/p>\n

“No wonder @mkainerugaba acts with blatant impunity without regard for law, basic decency, or common sense,” he tweeted on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“After bizarre and unthinkable tweets on his juvenile desire to militarily take Nairobi, his father promotes him to general. Theater of the absurd!”<\/p>\n

Muhoozi was on Tuesday promoted to the rank of full General from that of a Lieutenant-General.<\/p>\n

According to the Daily Monitor, he will be succeeded by former Major General Kayanja Muhanga, who will take over as the land forces commander.<\/p>\n

The promotion came a day after Muhoozi, in a series of tweets, threatened to invade Kenya and take control of Nairobi.<\/p>\n

“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” he said on Monday.<\/p>\n

Kenyans on Twitter reacted to the veiled threat to which Muhoozi replied with another set of rhetorical tweets.<\/p>\n

“I’m happy that members of our district in Kenya, have responded enthusiastically to my tweet. It’s still 2 weeks to Nairobi! After our army captures Nairobi, where should I live? Westlands? Riverside?” he said.<\/p>\n

He, however, appeared to retract the statements saying he was joking and he had no intention of taking over Kenya.<\/p>\n

“I would never beat up the Kenyan army because my father told me never to attempt it! So our people in Kenya should relax,” Muhoozi said.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Tuesday, Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs distanced itself from the remarks and reaffirmed the country’s continued bilateral ties with Kenya.<\/p>\n

“The Government of Uganda, therefore, wishes to reiterate its cordial relationship with the Republic of Kenya and assure the people and the Kenyan government of our harmonious relationship that we value,” it added.<\/p>\n
