Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya\u2019s Foreign Affairs Secretary nominee Alfred Mutua has appreciated steps taken by the government of Uganda to clarify controversial tweets posted by the former commander of the land forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, New Vision<\/b> has reported.<\/p>\n

This was after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs weighed in on the ongoing social media debate surrounding the controversial tweets made by Muhoozi who is also the First Son, and the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.<\/p>\n

The tweets had elicited sharp reactions on social media from top Kenyan government officials including the Speaker of Parliament, Moses Wetangula.<\/p>\n

In a tweet on Tuesday, Mutua said, \u201cwe accept this clarification.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement, Uganda\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had noted the debate on social media in respect to the relationship between Uganda its brotherly neighbour, Kenya.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry wishes to emphasize that the Government and the people of the Republic of Uganda treasure the existing strong bilateral relations between the people and the Government of the Republic of Kenya based on our shared history, common values, mutual respect, trust and the desire to build a unified East African Community. To this end, the Government of the Republic of Uganda wishes to reiterate its commitment to good neighbourliness, peaceful co-existence and cooperation,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Government of the Republic does not conduct its foreign policy and other official business through social media nor does it depend on social media sources in dealing with other foreign governments,\u201d the Ministry clarified.<\/p>\n

The ministry further said that the government of Uganda wished to reiterate its cordial relationship with Kenya and assure the people and the government of Kenya of a harmonious and valued relationship.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday morning, Mutua held a meeting with the Uganda High Commissioner to Kenya, Hassan Galiwango.<\/p>\n
