Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Veteran basketball coach Paul Odok, who was recently elected as a Member of the Homa Bay County Assembly has pledged to use his position opportunity to push for legislation that will spur development of sports in the devolved unit.<\/p>\n

The East Gem Ward representative said a Sports Policy will be a priority for the county and promised to work with relevant authorities in drafting one.<\/p>\n

Odok guided Asumbi Teachers Training College to 10 back-to-back national inter-colleges\u2019 titles and Agoro Sare High School to four county titles and the regional crown in 2019.<\/p>\n

Odok said key in the Sports Policy will be the quest to establish talent centres across the county as well as the construction of sports facilities.<\/p>\n

He also promised to revive the stalled construction of Homa Bay Stadium.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoma Bay has talents which have not been exposed and developed because we don\u2019t have facilities. Together with my colleagues in the Assembly, we shall push for the completion of the stadium, the construction of public basketball courts and social halls across the county. I also want sports personalities given health insurance,\u201d said Odok.<\/p>\n

The tactician who has been involved in sports development in Homa Bay for the last 20 years said he is keen to see active county leagues sponsored by the county government.<\/p>\n

He said despite his busy schedule as an MCA, he will continue nurturing basketball and football talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring my free time, I will engage in coaching. That\u2019s my passion,\u201d noted Odok, who intends to sit in the Youth, Gender and Sports Committee for ease of executing his agenda.<\/p>\n

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga is also a sports enthusiast who sponsored one of the biggest football tournaments \u2014 The Wanga Genowa NGAAF Tournament \u2014 in Nyanza region during her tenure as the Woman Representative.<\/p>\n
