Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Despite the uncertainty surrounding the start of the 2022\/23 Kenyan Premier League season, Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti says they are ready to roll.<\/p>\n

Muyoti used the inaugural Elite Pre-season Cup to gauge his charges and reckons that they are raring to go.<\/p>\n

During the tournament, Muyoti tweaked his lineup and formations severally as the team reached the final.<\/p>\n

Muyoti involved 24 players in the two-week tournament. However, stopper Edwin Buliba and striker Pius Omachi missed out due to injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learnt so much and picked very good pointers for the upcoming season. We now have a very clear picture of the team, apart from the few players who didn\u2019t participate in the tournament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

After Saturday’s final, where they fell 2-0 to Police FC, Muyoti handed his troops a three-day break to recuperate.<\/p>\n

In the group phase, City Stars drew 1-1 with Police, beat MCF 4-1 and drew 2-2 with Ulinzi Stars.<\/p>\n

In the semis, they beat Kariobangi Sharks 3-2 on post-match penalties following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the rest, we will go back to the drawing board to fix a few issues, after which we will be good for the start of the new season,\u201d added the coach.<\/p>\n

City Stars’ Samuel Kapen said the tournament was crucial in helping coaches assess their players.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a very good tournament that came with new challenges. It gave me the opportunity to know how the team plays and the system most preferred by the coach,\u201d said Kapen, who signed for Simba wa Nairobi in the just concluded transfer window.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also gave me the chance to understand the rest of my teammates as they played in a competitive environment. I have learned so much that I didn\u2019t know, and because of the tournament I can say I am now ready for the league.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Kibera Black Stars winger featured in three of City Stars’ five games, twice against Police and against Kariobangi Sharks in the semis, where he notched two assists.<\/p>\n

At the same time, lanky forward Vincent Otieno aka Jamaica is looking forward to a fruitful season after scoring twice in the pre-season tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy about the brace. My eyes are now trained on my first hat trick for the club. It has been my family for a while now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am also happy that I am now playing in my natural position as a striker. It is very competitive but I am ready to beat the competition and push the club to greater heights. Nothing is impossible and I believe God is with me, and the young team that we have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muyoti was also happy for his forward, saying: \u201cHe had very good movements as well as positioning as a point-man. I am happy that it is now resulting in goals. He was very good and I hope he can continue like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
