Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has said the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party has no elected member under its banner.<\/p>\n

“If it were to be considered a political party, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party has no elected member in this house today as no elected member was elected under its banner,” he said.<\/p>\n

Wetang’ula said what is clear from the constitution is that the leader of the majority party must lead either a party or a coalition of parties in the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

“I invite the house to note my emphasis on the word either,” he said in a ruling on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Wetang’ula said the Azimio party has no elected MP.<\/p>\n

Members of Parliament were deliberating on the majority membership of the House.<\/p>\n

Both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio have maintained that they hold the sway in the National Assembly with each side claiming to have the numerical advantage in the House.<\/p>\n

Azimio MPs insisted that they are the majority in the National Assembly by dint of the MPs elected under political parties that formed the coalition.<\/p>\n

Azimio la Umoja is recognised by the Office of the Registrar of Political parties as a political party comprising 26 fully registered political parties.<\/p>\n

This is by dint its coalition agreement deposited and evaluated by the ORPP.<\/p>\n
