Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Grace Wakhungu on Thursday attempted to save face after her appeal challenging her conviction and sentence in a Sh313 million graft case was thrown out.<\/p>\n

Clad in an Ankara outfit, blue scarf and a mask, Wakhungu attempted to avoid the camera’s as she was escorted back to the basement cells at Milimani Law courts.<\/p>\n

In a video seen by the Star, journalists scrambled to take her photos and video as security officers escorted her to the cells.<\/p>\n

She attempted to turn back in a bid to avoid the glaring cameras but two officers who were escorting her redirected her towards the cells.<\/p>\n

The High Court on Monday upheld the 67-year jail term handed to Sirisia MP John Waluke over the Sh313 million NCPB graft case.<\/p>\n

Wakhungu, the co-accused, was sentenced to 69 years in prison.<\/p>\n

Justice Esther Maina said the charges against Waluke and Wakhungu before trial Magistrate Elizabeth Juma were proven beyond reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n

“The sentences were not excessive. They are within the law. Conviction and sentences affirmed,” the judge said.<\/p>\n

Maina said Waluke and Wakhungu will have to pay their fines or serve the sentences.<\/p>\n

To walk to freedom, Waluke must pay a fine of Sh727,725,562 and Wakhungu Sh707,725,562 over the offence.<\/p>\n

The two are however, allowed to appeal the sentence within 14 days.<\/p>\n
