Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Athletics Kenya has begun the inspection of athletics training camps across the country as one way of fighting doping among Kenyan runners.<\/p>\n

Last month, the federation announced measures and conditions that training camps, managers and athlete support personnel will have to meet in what is expected to be a fresh, nationwide registration process.<\/p>\n

AK started the inspection with a tour of Complete Sports Training Camp in Uasin Gishu County, run by former Commonwealth Games 800m champion Japheth Kimutai.<\/p>\n

The camp was given the green light to continue with their activities with AK Youth Committee chairman Barnaba Korir saying the facility had met the requirements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a follow-up on what Athletics Kenya announced a month ago in regard to the registration of athletics camps, coaches, athletes representatives and managers,” said Korir.<\/p>\n

“This journey has started here at Complete Sports, run by Kimutai and his partners. We have inspected the facilities and we are happy with what we see.”<\/p>\n

“They have good structures. The separate dormitories for both men and women are fine and what impressed us most was the hotel that will be housing visitors. The other facilities are also on point,\u201d said Korir.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to know how these camps are run to ensure athletics in the country is run professionally. We want to ensure each camp is registered and has a constitution or rules guiding them. This is the first one and we think we will be visiting others as time goes by,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He revisited gender parity in sports saying that they need to train more women to handle women athletes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are very few women physiotherapists and coaches and since most athletes in these camps are Under 18, we will require women coaches and physiotherapists to responsible for our young girls,” he said.<\/p>\n
