Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Special Olympics Kenya is set to host the National Games set for October 8-9 at the Nyayo Stadium.<\/p>\n

The games will be used to select a team to represent the country at next year\u2019s Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin, Germany.<\/p>\n

The games will see 250 athletes from various counties taking part in 10 different sports including athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, beach volleyball, cycling, bocce, handball, badminton and golf. The sports will also feature traditional and unified sports.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Special Olympics Board of Directors Thuo Chege said the board was ready to host the national games in preparation for the main outing in Berlin next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with great pride that we stand ready to host our 2022 Special Olympics Kenya national games. We have to support our athletes as they compete for the honor of representing our great nation in Berlin come next year,\u201d Chege said.<\/p>\n

The team will be named at the conclusion of the event and it will consist a delegation of 97 participants. The Kenyan team will also be hoping to replicate the incredible success of the 2019 national team that returned victorious with a medal haul of 12 gold, eight silver and five bronze.<\/p>\n

The games will start with a march past commemorating Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day who was the founder of the Special Olympics Global Movement.<\/p>\n
