Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Governors have resolved to support the office of the auditor general in promoting accountability in the management of county funds.<\/p>\n

The county bosses reached the resolution after a three-day retreat on public finance, procurement and human resource management to address common challenges affecting county governments.<\/p>\n

The retreat was chaired by the chairperson of the Council of Governors Ann Waiguru.<\/p>\n

“The National Treasury will disburse funds to county governments within the statutory timelines,” Waiguru said<\/p>\n

She said the controller of budget and the Central Bank of Kenya will put in place an automation system by December 2022 to eliminate the movement of county officers to Nairobi for clearance.<\/p>\n

Waihuru further said governors will be apprised of the structure of the Equalization Fund Board, its governing regulatory framework and flow of funds to concerned counties.<\/p>\n

The governors also resolved to shall follow the Public Procurement Law to undertake procurement responsibilities.<\/p>\n

She added that governors will also work together with the County Pension Fund and Salaries and Remuneration Commission on the management of gratuity and pensions.<\/p>\n

“The Council of Governors will move amendments to the county governments act on the appointment and tenure of the County Chief Officers,” she said.<\/p>\n
