Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura has put to task the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) to determine the majority and minority coalition of parties for the Nairobi County Assembly.<\/p>\n

In a letter addressed to Ann Njeri, the Acting Registrar of Political Parties, the legislator wants the speaker to determine five key issues as the house prepares to start plenary sittings next week.<\/p>\n

Chege wants her office to determine which party is the majority in adherence to the Political Parties Act.<\/p>\n

\u201c I hereby wish to request your urgent intervention and help in determining the following; the definition of a coalition of parties and a coalition party,\u201d reads the letter dated October 4, 2022.<\/p>\n

The UDA MCA also wants the actual position of Azimio One Kenya Alliance Coalition Party as a party coalition and its affiliates (Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Jubilee and Wiper parties) and what they ought to be regarded in the context of the Nairobi County Assembly.<\/p>\n

The RPP has also been tasked to determine the position of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition of parties.<\/p>\n

Also, the MCA wants to know the position of the dissolution of Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) and if it changes strength in the Nairobi County assembly.<\/p>\n

Following his nomination to the cabinet last month, Cabinet nominee for Trade and Industry, Moses Kuria, officially started the process of merging his CCK party with UDA.<\/p>\n

The letter was copied to county Assembly Speaker Ken Ng\u2019ondi and UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina.<\/p>\n

Last month, 123 MCAs were sworn into office after the gazettement of the first sitting by Governor Johnson Sakaja.<\/p>\n

The house is meant to have 124 MCAs but elections are yet to be held for Utawala ward.<\/p>\n

Out of the 123, 85 are elected members while 39 are nominated.<\/p>\n

In terms of elected members; UDA has 35 MCAs, ODM has 35, Jubilee (6), Wiper (4), CCK has one and three are Independent MCAs.<\/p>\n

President William Ruto-led UDA party and Raila Odinga’s ODM each have 17 nominated MCAs.<\/p>\n

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta\u2019s Jubilee has three nominated MCAs and Wiper has two.<\/p>\n

In total, ODM and UDA have 52 MCAs each, Jubilee has 9 Wiper has 6 and CCK has one MCA.<\/p>\n

Already, UDA and Azimio have revealed their Assembly leadership with both claiming to be the majority.<\/p>\n

UDA named Waithaka MCA Antony Kirangu as the Majority leader and will be deputized by South B MCA Waithera Chege.<\/p>\n

Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi will be the Majority Whip and Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni will be his deputy.<\/p>\n

Azimio named Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok as the majority leader and will be deputised by Laini Saba MCA John Musila.<\/p>\n

Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto will serve as the Majority whip and be deputised by Upper Savannah MCA Elijah Stazo.<\/p>\n
