Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A Kenya Kwanza legislator wants the ministry of roads to explain why major road projects started by the previous administration have stalled.<\/p>\n

Chepalungu MP Victor Koech said while most of the projects have deliberately been delayed others were poorly done hence the relevant authority in the ministry should be put to task.<\/p>\n

Koech cited the upgrading of 60km Kyogong-Sigor-Kaboson-Chebunyo road in his constituency which he said stopped a month to the August 9 general election.<\/p>\n

“We were about to celebrate but along the way the contractor left the site and up to now we are yet to see him,” said the CCM party MP.<\/p>\n

“I have made several attempts to visit relevant offices in vain,” he added.<\/p>\n

The project, which was set to be completed in 36 months, was launched early 2021.<\/p>\n

It was being implemented by a Chinese contractor – China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation at a cost of Sh2.1 billion.<\/p>\n

The legislator, however, expressed optimism that President William Ruto’s administration will prioritise the completion of these road projects and called for patience from his constituents.<\/p>\n

The tarmacking of roads under the low seal volume annuity programme was launched back in 2015 and targeted 10,000 kilometers of rural roads across the country.<\/p>\n

This was part of the plans by the Jubilee administration to ensure a wider road network connectivity is achieved.<\/p>\n

Koech said there was need for Parliament to make recommendations to the ministry of roads specifying how road projects are to be undertaken per region.<\/p>\n

“In future, we should put proper considerations to the standards we give to roads because we come from various geographical areas hence different types of soil,” he stated.<\/p>\n
