Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto will preside over his first National Day celebrations during the Mashujaa Day celebrations on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Outgoing Interior PS Karanja Kibicho said on Monday that at least 22,000 members of the public are expected to attend the event at Uhuru Gardens.<\/p>\n

“The gates will be open from 4am and invitees are advised to be seated by 7am,” Kibicho said.<\/p>\n

The event will be at the venue which Ruto blasted his former President Uhuru Kenyatta for spending Sh15 billion on its renovation.<\/p>\n

He said that the project was unbudgeted for and had gobbled up Sh100 billion and spiraled the country’s debt burden.<\/p>\n

“There are too many projects that are not budgeted for. For example, Uhuru Gardens Museum, you don’t see it anywhere in government budgets but it’s being built. Uhuru Gardens Museum was not budgeted for. We have spent close to Sh15 billion on that project,\u201d Ruto said then.<\/p>\n

He was speaking during the presidential debate on July 26.<\/p>\n

Uhuru officially opened Uhuru Gardens in July after being closed for close to two years for renovations.<\/p>\n

Mashujaa Day, also known as Heroes’ Day, is a Kenyan national holiday which is observed on October 20.<\/p>\n

It is a public holiday to honour all Kenyans who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya’s independence or positively contributed in the post independence Kenya.<\/p>\n

The day changed its name from Kenyatta Day after the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.<\/p>\n
