Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The United Nations Development Program has offered to support Kenya in hosting the YouthConnekt Africa Summit in October 2023.<\/p>\n

Michele Candotti, the Chief of Staff and Director of the Executive Office of the UNDP, announced this when he made a courtesy call on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Harambee House Annex office.<\/p>\n

Candotti also announced that Kenya is due to take over the presidency of the Executive Office of the UNDP from January 2023.<\/p>\n

DP Gachagua said Kenya was ready to host the youth summit which was the brainchild of Rwanda and has been hosted in Kigali annually for the last 10 years.<\/p>\n

The DP said Kenya is delighted to host the summit which has traditionally brought together more than 9,000 youth from across the continent to exchange ideas on technology and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be a great moment for us. The role of the youth cannot be over-emphasised,\u201d said the DP, adding that Kenya will hold at least 10,000 youths.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President and I have made a commitment that we shall mentor them (the youth) and they will be partners in the economic transformation of our country,\u201d the DP said.<\/p>\n

Candotti said the UNDP was ready to support Kenya as it hosts the youth summit and was equally prepared for Kenya\u2019s leadership of its Executive Office from January next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe congratulate Kenya for offering to host the 2023 summit,\u201d said Candotti who was accompanied by the UNDP Resident Representative in Kenya Anthony Ngororano.<\/p>\n

Gachagua attended the last YouthConnekt Africa Summit in Kigali last week where he made Kenya\u2019s offer to host the next edition. He was in the company of 12 youthful<\/p>\n

The DP was among the keynote speakers at the event alongside Rwanda President Paul Kagame. Other speakers included Namibian President Hage Geingob and the President of Sierra Leone Macky Sall.<\/p>\n
