Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A pupil has lost his life and five others admitted to two facilities following a fire incident at Adu Blossom boarding primary in Katito, Nyakach sub-county.<\/p>\n

The pupil died while at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.<\/p>\n

The death was confirmed by the hospital CEO George Rae who said a total of 6 patients, five students and one teacher were brought to the facility.<\/p>\n

He said one of the students was transferred from the hospital to Avenue Hospital upon request from parents while another student has been taken to ICU.<\/p>\n

“Two students have been admitted to the ward while the teacher is still at casualty,” he said.<\/p>\n

Nyakach OCPD Daniel Chacha told the media that the fire broke out in one of the dormitories within the school which had nine pupils and a teacher.<\/p>\n

Chacha said the incident occurred at midnight when the pupils and the teachers were asleep.<\/p>\n

He said the nine people who were in the dormitory where the fire started sustained serious burns.<\/p>\n

“We got the report, responded and rushed to the school, where we broke the door because it was locked from the inside.”<\/p>\n

He added that they managed to pull out one of the teachers from the dormitory and the other students who had sustained burns.<\/p>\n

“We then rushed them to Nyakach sub-county hospital where they were attended to. But six others with serious burns were referred to JOORTH.”<\/p>\n

The OCPD, however, stated that three pupils were treated and released back to the school in fair condition.<\/p>\n

He noted that the school has a capacity of over 300 pupils but the fire only affected one dormitory stressing that others were all safe.<\/p>\n

The OCPD stated that they have already launched an investigation into the matter to know what might have caused the fire.<\/p>\n

“However preliminary reports point to suspected electric fault but we are engaging different experts in regards to the incident,” he noted.<\/p>\n

School manager Benedict Oduk who spoke to the media announced that they have temporarily closed the school.<\/p>\n

Oduk said this is also to allow investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n

He added that the pupils lost their property in the fire.<\/p>\n
