Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Opposition leaders led by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi on Sunday called on IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati and commissioners Boya Molu and Prof Abdi Guliye to proceed on terminal leave.<\/p>\n

The leaders said that the poll officials whose term in office expires on January 17, 2023, have accumulated leave days over the years and it is by law that they vacate now.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need to proceed on a three months terminal leave… What is it that they want to achieve now that they could not in the last six years?\u201d Wandayi posed.<\/p>\n

The Ugunja MP was speaking at his home in Sidindi where he had hosted his deputy Robert Mbui (Kathiani) and MPs Caleb Amisi (Sabaoti) and David Pkosing (Pokot South).<\/p>\n

The leaders said they had learnt that President William Ruto has already started the process of replacing the trio.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are calling for a transparent and consultative way of replacing the electoral chairperson and the two commissioners,\u201d Pkosing said.<\/p>\n

MPs Mbui and Amisi promised that, as the opposition, they are ready to protect the constitution and Kenyans against the excesses of the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry, Kenyans. We shall hold this government to account… They said the government would be of mama mboga and bodaboda but instead, tycoons are going to be given the opportunity to run this country,\u201d Mbui said.<\/p>\n

During the vetting at Parliament, Ruto’s CS nominees made public their wealth. Their net worth ranges from Sh80 million and Sh4 billion.<\/p>\n
