Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Seka Kagwa village in Homa Bay will now be able to access safe water for consumption.<\/p>\n

The Japanese Government on Tuesday handed over a Sh11.69 million water project for the improvement of safe water access to the county government.<\/p>\n

At least 3,000 residents of 1,820 households will benefit from the facility.<\/p>\n

The Government of Japan provided the Integrated Development Facility (IDF) NGO through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).<\/p>\n

GGP fund aided in installing a water purification facility to improve the safe water access in Seka Kagwa.<\/p>\n

The handing over ceremony took place at St John Seka Mixed Secondary School inRachuonyo-North Sud-county in Homa Bay.<\/p>\n

Kitagawa Yasuhisa, the deputy head of the Japanese Embassy graced the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Also, Homabay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga and Karachuonyo MP Adipo Okuome were in attendance.<\/p>\n

The Integrated Development Facility (IDF) has installed a water purification facility for residents in Seka Kagwa Village.<\/p>\n

The facility is a product of the Japanese company, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.<\/p>\n

The facility converts water from Lake Victoria to safe water which people have confidence in, by providing a reliable, stable source of safe and clean water for their good health<\/p>\n

This project is among many projects in line with the Government of Japan’s Assistance Policy for the Republic of Kenya.<\/p>\n

Early this month, Japan signed a grant contract for the GGP with Kitui county.<\/p>\n

Kitui will receive a grant of approximately Sh12.8 million (USD 111,151) from the Government of Japan.<\/p>\n

It will be used to construct and rehabilitate earth dam to strengthen resilience against the severe drought currently facing Kenya.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to provide a stable source of safe and clean water to the local community.<\/p>\n

Since 1989, the Government of Japan has provided support to Kenyan non-profit organisations such as self-help groups, community-based organisations (CBOs), non-governmental organisations(NGOs), schools, medical institutions and County Governments through GGP.<\/p>\n

Until now, more than300 projects have been implemented in all 47 counties and they have enhanced the well-being of people in Kenya at the grassroots level, based on the concept of human security.<\/p>\n
