Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Strathmore University hockey coach Meshack Senge wants the women’s team Scorpions to remain focused despite opening a seven-point advantage at the top of the Premier League standings.<\/p>\n

The high-flyers take on third-placed Lakers in Match Day 9 on Sunday, seeking to make a repeat performance after edging out the lakeside team at their backyard courtesy of Grace Bwire’s solo strike in the first leg.<\/p>\n

The former decade-long serving national men’s team coach said complacency is not an option since the students are yet to win anything.<\/p>\n

Scorpions, who are on course to their maiden league title, remain unbeaten after eight matches with 22 points having conceded just twice thus far.<\/p>\n

“It is one match at a time as we try to be diligent. There are flaws to be addressed since we are not near any finished product. Another three points will be a step in the right direction,” the former international categorically explained.<\/p>\n

“We are not looking at the title at the moment because there are many matches still to be played. No need to overlook ourselves despite having the capacity to get our act together.”<\/p>\n

The Lakers must replicate their current form which saw them win twice in Kisumu last weekend if they have to escape the City Park Stadium with maximum points. The Lakers face USIU-A Spartans on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, they also lost 1-0 to Spartans in Kisumu in the reverse fixture. Spartans have drawn twice and lost once in their last three matches, ending their hope of wrestling for the title with the Scorpions.<\/p>\n

“We just have to win all our matches and see what happens to our rivals. Defensive lapses have cost us while scoring has been a nightmare for the attackers but we are ready to make amends,” Spartans coach Willis Okeyo pointed out.<\/p>\n

In the men’s cadre, table toppers Butali Warriors have a date with Strathmore Gladiators. The flawless defending champions are a cut above the rest and favourites to win if their head-to-head statistics are anything to go by.<\/p>\n

Former champions Kenya Police will aim to return to winning ways against USIU-A Mashujaa.<\/p>\n

The law enforces lost 2-0 to Western Jaguars in Kakamega last weekend and are winless in three encounters. Maintaining the second spot is Police’s only hope. Third-placed Jaguars who are on a nine-match unbeaten run, tackle Amira Sailors’ unpredictable side.<\/p>\n
