Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>St Mary\u2019s village near Murang\u2019a town was left in shock after a woman and her children were barred from attending the burial of her husband on Friday.<\/p>\n

The drama started when Jane Kasunta was locked out of her husband\u2019s homestead together with friends who had accompanied her.<\/p>\n

Her husband George Karanja\u2019s brother was the gatekeeper that kept Kasunta away from the all-important ceremony.<\/p>\n

Kasunta told journalists that she lived with Karanja for 17 years in the United Kingdom and that he got cancer before passing away.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough we\u2019re not legally married, we\u2019ve been living together for a long time and we have two children; one 12 years and another two years old,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said it was Karanja\u2019s wish to be buried in the UK but his relatives wanted him laid to rest in Kenya, a proposal she did not object to.<\/p>\n

She noted that she did not know that having the burial in Kenya would result in her being locked out of his home.<\/p>\n

After a back and forth that went on for some time, her firstborn son was eventually allowed into the ceremony while Kasunta was left out with her younger son.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came and were told that we would not be allowed to get in and they did not give reasons why. My friends have paid tickets from the UK to come to bury my husband and have been locked out with me.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen my partner died, we did not have any issues. In fact, the day before he died, he held my hand, squeezed it and told me to look after his children,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Karanja\u2019s family did not wish to comment on the matter.<\/p>\n
