Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Reigning World cross country junior champion Beatrice Chebet is excited after graduating into senior ranks and she is already nursing the ambition of winning next year’s world title.<\/p>\n

Despite finishing third at the second leg of the Athletics Kenya (AK) cross-country meeting at the Kapsokwony High school in Mount Elgon, Bungoma on Saturday, the Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion said she wants to win gold at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia early next year.<\/p>\n

Competing in her first race since running in Birmingham, Chebet said she has joined the big league and she is ready to rumble.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope to win gold at next year\u2019s World Cross Country Championships to extend my good run in the wild. Today\u2019s race was my first this season and wanted to use it to test how myself ahead of the global show,” said the former world Under 20 5,000m champion.<\/p>\n

She clocked 34:19.9 to finish third behind winner Edna Jebitok (33:57.8) and second-placed Agnes Jebet Ngetich ( 34:06.0).<\/p>\n

In the senior men, reigning Africa under 20 5,000m bronze medalist Reuben Longosiwa won the title in 30:05.3 followed by Shadrack Kipchirchir (30:12.8) and Charles Lokir (30:17.4).<\/p>\n

Ismail Kirui won the men’s 8km junior men junior race in 23:53.1 ahead of Charles Rotich (24:21.9) and Ndiwa Kibet (24:34.3).<\/p>\n

Joyce Chepkemoi reigned supreme in the junior women’s 6km race after clocking 20:25.5. Marion Chepngetich ( 20:28.5) and Nancy Cherop (20:41.4) followed in the second and third position respectively.<\/p>\n

Sotik in Bomet county will host the next leg on November 12 with Olkalau, Nyandarua County next in the line on November 26. The last leg of the series will be in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County on December 10<\/p>\n
