Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega has revealed that he is eyeing the East African Legislative Assembly post.<\/p>\n

The EALA is the regional legislature for the East African Community member states where Kenya has nine slots.<\/p>\n

Kega, the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya stalwart from Central Kenya, said he had made the decision after broad consultations and \u201csoul searching\u201d.<\/p>\n

The former MP will be bidding for the slot through the ex-ruling party, Jubilee.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter intense consultations and deep soul searching I have decided to offer myself for nomination through Jubilee\/Azimio Party for the EALA MP position,’ the politician Twitted on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The ally of opposition chief Raila Odinga said he is ready for the next challenge to represent Kenya in the regional Parliament.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe I have the requisite qualifications and experience to represent our great Nation in the East Africa Legislative Assembly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The politician, who was swept aside by the strong United Democratic Alliance wave in Mt Kenya region, could find a soft landing in EALA.<\/p>\n

The MP enjoys good cordial ties with Raila, the leader of Azimio.<\/p>\n

Kega was among the significant number of allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta who lost to UDA candidates across the region.<\/p>\n

The deadline for the applications to Parliament expires today ahead of nominations next week.<\/p>\n

A parliamentary committee has already been set up to receive the applications, interview applicants and table a report on successful nominees.<\/p>\n

The House will then vote on the report to approve or reject the report.<\/p>\n

Kenya is the only member state that is yet to pick its representatives to EALA.<\/p>\n
