Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Chief Justice Martha Koome has said she won’t hesitate to reach out to President Willliam Ruto for problem-solving.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Friday, she said in her capacity, she solves problems where she can and that has been the trend, however, there are other issues that can be solved by the head of state.<\/p>\n

“If I know the problem that I\u2019m facing and it is only the president that can solve it. Why won’t I pick up the phone and call his office and say that I need to speak with His excellence the president?”Koome posed<\/p>\n

The CJ explained that making that phone call would be the beginning of solving the problem as the government with its three arms needs to work together.<\/p>\n

“We are in this together because if the judiciary fails, the executive fails. We are just a three-legged stool that will have to stand when all the legs are up and standing,” Koome added.<\/p>\n

Since his presidential win, Ruto vowed to support Judiciary’s independence and budget allocation.<\/p>\n

He said his government will increase the Judiciary budget by an additional Sh3 billion for the next five years in a bid to make courts financially independent.<\/p>\n

The Judiciary has over the years suffered budget cuts that saw former Chief Justice David Maraga bitterly complain about the crippling effects on their operations.<\/p>\n

Ruto pledged that his administration will respect court decisions.<\/p>\n

He also pledged to increase the number of small claims courts from the current 25 to 100.<\/p>\n

Small claims courts handle cases valued at less than Sh1 million and were introduced as part of plans to reduce case backlog, which has bogged down the Judiciary over the years.<\/p>\n
