Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Migori county has been losing Sh60 million annually to ghost workers and discrepancy in the payroll, an audit has revealed.<\/p>\n

The Institute of Human Resource Management was contracted by the county to audit the workforce, a report which was handed over to Governor Ochillo Ayacko on Friday in Migori town.<\/p>\n

The audit on the payroll showed a disparity of Sh120 million in a month and another ballooning to more than Sh200 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be the first step towards service delivery and giving our mandate and pledges to the people which was to streamline and seal corruption loopholes,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

Ayacko said after taking over office from his predecessor Okoth Obado, who served for the past decade the number of casuals were 427, but the audit has revealed a total of 1,034 with 607 not accounted for.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had ghosts who were entrusted with our revenues and they did not have incentive to hand over what they collected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Workers in a similar job group were earning different salaries with a discrepancy of more than Sh300,000, with some employed without the due process of competitive advertising and interviews.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome were employed with a budget and in positions which don\u2019t exist even in our jurisdiction as a county government [and] areas which needed staff were left pending,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe audit will show were the ghost worked, who were their supervisors and put in place those who will be prudent with tax payers money.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will know where they worked, who supervised them and heads will roll.\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
