Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Ex-Safina presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi has called on voters in the larger Nyanza region not to wait for another 10 years in opposition.<\/p>\n

Wanjigi was speaking at the funeral ceremony of Violet Dawa, wife to Legion Maria reverend and politician Willis Ondiek in Ratado, Ugenya, Siaya county.<\/p>\n

The event was also graced by Siaya governor James Orengo and a host of Siaya county MCAs.<\/p>\n

Wanjigi sought to persuade locals against following “one man” to a point where Nyanza has become synonymous with opposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you going to wait for another 10 years out of (political) power? Your region has a good history of having fought for rights and freedoms that we enjoy yet you are still outside power. You deserve to be inside power,\u201d Wanjigi opined.<\/p>\n

Wanjigi said that the region must devise a multi-pronged strategy and be part of those who form governments instead of always banking all their hopes in one man at the top.<\/p>\n

That one man at the top (the head), he asserted, has always failed the region by failing to capture power.<\/p>\n

He stressed that Nyanza has a great potential and so, the need for the region to join in a constructive conversation on how every local can achieve their maximum potential.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to advise you that there are many ways of skinning a cat; you must be inside government not always looking at \u2018the head\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

But in a quick rejoinder, governor Orengo told Wanjigi off saying that Nyanza region has a clear-cut path to follow politically.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a people, we have a specific bridge and leader that we follow,\u201d Orengo said.<\/p>\n

The governor urged locals not to lose hope in their quest for nationhood if they are to reap premium benefits.<\/p>\n

He said, albeit figuratively; \u201cYou cannot abandon your mother’s house because it is leaking. If it is leaking you fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n

East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru reiterated Orengo\u2019s sentiments, saying that Nyanza people are ready to wait even for 40 years if that is what it may take to get the kind of leadership that they yearn for.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaila is our Moses and we are going to continue following him unless God calls him to glory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also, Wanjigi hailed the Kenya Kwanza administration for police reforms as has lately been witnessed in the Directorate of criminal Investigations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police had become a home for mass murderers of fellow Kenyans and we commend the newly installed government for the reforms,\u201d Wanjigi said.<\/p>\n

He explained that the police department had become a force and not a police service contrary to the spirit of the Constitution, 2010.<\/p>\n

Wanjigi noted that families that have lost their loved ones in the hands of the police have not been compensated and culprits brought to book.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want an accountability in the police department and we do not care how high it goes. Let the law slaughter all murderers.\u201d<\/p>\n

He recognized that the current administration has inherited challenges from the preceding administration and that it is in order they be given a bit of time to get their act together.<\/p>\n
