Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenyatta University 1994 convocation has elected ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo to serve as the association’s patron. Owalo, who recently took oath of office as the ICT CS, was also feted for his new appointment.<\/p>\n

In an event held on November 4, the team met for a reunion to reminisce and celebrate wins by Members. During the occasion, the CS officially launched the KU 94 convocation group as a welfare association to advance the economic and social interests of its members.<\/p>\n

He was unanimously elected as the Patron of the group. The interim Leadership Team including Charles Patterson Otwori( Chairman) , Samson Kasura(Deputy Chairperson), Agnes Kithikii(Executive Secretary), Kodhek Omwancha (Treasurer) and John Orindi(Director Communications & PR).<\/p>\n

Others are Alice Ngige(Member), Joy Mutuma(Member) Anne Waweru(Member) and Mary Mbii(Member) The team will develop the group’s strategic plan that is expected to guide the group to economic and social prosperity.<\/p>\n

“In an era where social capital is considered as an asset , the benefits and opportunities that members can draw from such a national group with diverse talents, skills, experience and capabilities are limitless,” Owalo said.<\/p>\n

He challenged his colleagues to prioritze on higher goals and warned the members against turning the association into a merry go round group or a funeral contribution committee.<\/p>\n

The mood at the reunion dinner event was ecstatic and nostalgic as members reminisced their campus days. The event provided an opportunity to catch up with old friends.<\/p>\n

Some of the members had not met for the last 28 years. Owalo took members down the memory lane on how they used to strike and protest when they missed chicken and chapati in the menu. He promised that his dream is to see that every household in Kenya has access to free Wifi.<\/p>\n

“I envisioned a time when Kenyans would go out, take stones and strike because the internet is down like the students used to do when they found no chicken and chapati at the mess,” he said.<\/p>\n

Members gifted the CS with a wood curving of a lion as symbol of courage and exemplary leadership that he had shown from the early days when he was a student.<\/p>\n
