Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>United States International University Spartans have their work cut out in polishing their attack ahead of this weekend’s clash against defending champions Blazers.<\/p>\n

Coach Willis Okeyo is eager for his charges to return to winning ways after registering two draws and as many loses in their last four matches to put a dent to their title hopes.<\/p>\n

Spartans returned to action on October 15 against Sailors in their 1-1 drab draw. The team was out of action for six months and the long break deprived the students the momentum they had built.<\/p>\n

Another 2-2 draw with Wolverines was hard to take for Spartans, who were unlucky before losing 2-1 to champions-in-waiting Strathmore Scorpions.<\/p>\n

Lakers capitalised on Spartans’ inability to convert their chances to put them to the sword, running out 3-1 winners on October 30 at the City Park Stadium.<\/p>\n

“There’s no point of dominating matches and dropping points. That has been our story since the league resumed. The poor form is worrying. Players must rise to the occasion,” Okeyo said.<\/p>\n

“Attacking-wise, there’s much to be done because we have failed to put in the finishing touch and we end up being punished for our profligacy. Players are not in peak physical condition and must up their levels.”<\/p>\n

Okeyo, who doubles up as a Kenya Police midfielder, said they have a chance to finish in the top three and are targeting a faultless run in the remaining five matches.<\/p>\n

Spartans drew 1-1 with Blazers in the first leg and currently lie fourth with nine points from seven matches in the seven-team league. They take on Scorpions next weekend with the result important to all teams.<\/p>\n

“We need to find consistency. We are a pale shadow of a team we were. However, there’s so much potential in the group.”<\/p>\n
