Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>As Scrabble Kenya series head to Nyahururu this weekend, federation chairman Bernard Amuke has insisted on the need to invest in junior players.<\/p>\n

Amuke said there are several international torunaments lined up for next year including the World English Scrabble Players Association Championships, the World Cup in Las Vegas, USA and the East and Central Africa Scrabble Association championships in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Kenya finished second at the Africa Scrabble Championships and Amuke believes investment in youth players will be key if they are to fair better next time round.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to invest in our youth. They are our future. We have huge potential in the youth. Some of them missed out on the ASC due to financial constraints but we are hoping to avoid such issues in future,\u201d said Amuke.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nigerian who won the overall title in the ASC, Enock Nwali, is a junior. It is sad that our juniors could not make it.<\/p>\n

He added: “In as much as we got some funding from Kenya Pipeline, this went to the registration process while each player was to cater for the rest of the items including air fare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

At the Lusaka championships, Allan Oyende was the top Kenyan at fourth place the same position he was in 2019. Nwali won the title followed by compatriots Wellington Jighere and Prince Omosefe. Their podium sweep saw Nigeria take the team title, with Kenya second.<\/p>\n
