Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya’s international badminton player Wilkie Keragori has said he is determined to defend his title at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology open badminton tournament scheduled for November 19 and 20.<\/p>\n

Keragori lost to his international counterpart Edwin Akwanyi at the Nyanza badminton tournament last week after he experienced a hand fracture in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

Akwanyi was crowned the winner after defeating Fabian Derrick of Kisumu 2-0 in the finals played on Sunday at Aghakan hall, Kisumu.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hurt my hand at the quarter-finals playoffs which was really unfortunate since I really wanted to win the game,\u201d said Wilkie. He further added that his hand has recovered well and he is now ready to play at the tournament.<\/p>\n

Having won before the Yang Yang sponsored badminton player said he is looking to maintain his team\u2019s glory at the JKUAT opens and that they just began their training after a two-day rest following the Nyanza tournament.<\/p>\n

JKUAT coach-cum-player won against Uganda after playing at the 2020 Uganda international tournament at the men\u2019s doubles alongside Edwin Waitathu and John Wanyoike.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just started our training sessions and we hope to win as we have always done before,\u201d Keragori said.<\/p>\n

Keragori is optimistic that winning the tournament will not only boost their record but also motivate their junior players as they advance their badminton interests.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the Nyanza badminton club coach, Victor Odera will be escorting his team to the tournament in their benevolent winning attitude optimistic they will maintain the performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are really glad to have won the Nyanza tournament since it boosted our motivation. Now our focus is on the JKUAT opens,\u201d Odera further noted that he will represent Kisumu on the veterans team.<\/p>\n

The JKUAT open which will possibly conclude this year’s tournament will be expecting badminton teams across Kenya including Kisumu shuttlers, Mysa club, Mombasa shuttlers, Nakuru shuttlers, Kenya Methodist University Club, Limuru shuttlers, Technical University of Kenya Club, University of Nairobi club.<\/p>\n

Other interested institutions are yet to confirm.<\/p>\n
