Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula has today hosted a delegation from the Indian High Commission and held discussions centred on cooperation between the two countries<\/p>\n

Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Namgya Khampa led the delegation that visited Wetang\u2019ula at his office.<\/p>\n

The meeting discussed diplomatic relations and trade between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Khampa extended a goodwill message to Wetang\u2019ula and the National Assembly for the just concluded peaceful election and for his election as the Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n

She noted that Kenya and India have a great history of partnerships in trade, infrastructure development and pharmaceutical business.<\/p>\n

Tracing the history of India and Kenya, Wetang\u2019ula said India played a significant role in the construction of the Railway from Kenya to Uganda.<\/p>\n

He hailed India as having a vibrant democracy which has embraced technology for development.<\/p>\n

\u201cKenya and India have huge potential to explore in the areas of education, trade and commerce. India has been supportive in offering scholarships to the Kenyan students in areas of medicine, finance, and now information technology,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The High commissioner welcomed the collaboration of India and Kenya on exchange programmes for MPs in capacity building at the Indian Parliamentary Training Institute.<\/p>\n

Khampa is on her first tour of duty in the country in her role as the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya and is keen to explore other areas of engagement including defence.<\/p>\n

Present at the meeting were the Head of Chancery, Rakesh Mohan and the Deputy Director at the Speakers Office Rose Mudibo.<\/p>\n
