Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>South African Jerome Muller has left his role as head coach of Kabras.<\/p>\n

The South African, who guided the team to Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup double last season has left to pursue other interests back home in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

Assistant coach Carlos Katwa will temporarily take charge of the team for the pre-season Victoria Cup final against neighbours Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Muller said he was delighted for the sugar millers to win their second Kenya Cup title and Enterprise Cup title for the Kakamega-based side after a five-year losing streak.<\/p>\n

“The boys really played well last season. They kept their composure and were determined to win after the heartbreaking final of 2021 when we lost to KCB from a position of strength,\u201d added Muller.<\/p>\n

Assistant coach and former Kenya Simbas international Max Adaka will handle the forwards and work on the defence while former player Edwin Achayo who has been handling the development side will take charge of the backs.<\/p>\n

Former Kenya Sevens international Felix Ayange is the skills coach and has started making tweaks to the side’s attacking structure ahead of the new season.<\/p>\n

The champions will start their title defence without 10 players who are with the Simbas in the World Cup repechage and Achayo has termed the opening three weeks of the campaign as tricky for the champions.<\/p>\n

“How we navigate that period without our dependable players will tell us a lot about our character. We have tricky matches coming along and we have to be well-prepared. This will be a competitive season based on what we have seen in pre-season,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n

The title holders will face Catholic Monks in their opening match followed thereafter by ties against Mean Machine on December 3, Quins (December 10) and Masinde Muliro on December 17 when the league takes a break for the Christmas and New year break.<\/p>\n

Kabras have had five coaches since gaining promotion to the top flight including Anthony Ogot, Australian Mike Bishop, Zimbabwean Mzingaye Nyathi, South African Henley Du Plessis and Jerome Muller.<\/p>\n
